Requisite Personality Traits To Becoming Successful Day Traders

Although professionals may need to have an Ivy-League education in order to open the doors to jobs with well-known trading houses, in fact becoming day traders has more to do with your personality traits than it does to do with your educational ability. 5 of the essential personality traits you are going to need to being a successful trader include:

•  Confidence

Although it is never of benefit to be overly confident, unless you have a high level of confidence in both yourself and your abilities, you'll never make it in this cut-throat world. When the time comes that you start to doubt your actions, it's time to get out of the game. So, say to yourself every day that you believe in yourself and your actions and make this your mantra!

•  Decisiveness

Going hand-in-hand with a high level of confidence in your own abilities is an ability to be decisive. You simply don't have time to ponder your actions. Be hard, be fair, but above all else - be decisive!

•  Accept You Can Be Wrong

On more than one occasion (probably within the first week!) you are going to make a mistake. If you are the sort of person who fails to accept you've made a mistake, or who is unwilling to accept that you even made a mistake, this is not going to be the game for you. You need to know you've made a mistake, accept you've made a mistake, and, most importantly, learn from the mistake and move on.

•  Be Willing To Take A Risk

If you are the sort of personality who is unwilling to risk it all on the turn of a card, it is unlikely that this is going to be the business for you. Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting security in your life, you'll not have the edge that'll become so important to your professional life if you are not willing to take a risk every now and then

•  Discipline

Discipline is a cornerstone to being a successful trader. You need to set a plan, stick to the plan, and not deviate from the plan. You'll need to be patient at times when the plan appears to be going wrong. You'll need to have the passion to believe that your plan is the best even when results look like you're completely at odds with what everyone else is doing. You'll need the concentration levels to be able to absorb huge amounts of information that should ease your decision making process. But, above all else, you'll need to have the discipline to see it through to the end!
